Instead of doing anything productive, I spent the last two hours putting this together. Yes, it is two o'clock in the morning. YOU'RE WELCOME, INTERNET.

This was the series finale of the short-lived spinoff of The Office, THE MICHAEL SCOTT PAPER COMPANY, which is so sad, because it lasted for such a short time but had such an impact on all of our lives. Compelling television, people.

But it's okay! Because it's being replaced by its new spinoff:

RYAN: Ever since I've gotten clean there's something about fresh morning air that... just really makes me sick.

This picspam quickly devolved into: SEE HOW CLOSE THE WRITERS WILL ALLOW PAM AND RYAN TO SIT NEXT TO EACH OTHER. READ WAY TOO MUCH INTO EVERY LITTLE GLANCE. LEGS CROSSED TOWARD EACH OTHER, THAT IS AN UNEQUIVOCAL SEX INVITE.

Um, yeah, I kind of ship them now? Like ridiculously so? You know how [livejournal.com profile] typicrobots did the whole Alterna-season-three picspams of Barney/Robin and had the brilliant theory of they're-actually-sleeping-together-the-whole-time going on? I think this needs to be done with Pam and Ryan. (SACRILEGE, I know, but Jim bores me so much.)

RYAN: I never went to Thailand.
PAM: Really?
RYAN: I went to Fort Lauderdale.
MICHAEL: Was it nice?
RYAN: (sarcastic) Yeah, it was amazing.

NEW FAVORITE FANON: Ryan went to Fort Lauderdale for rehab. I don't know why but I love the idea of it. OH RYAN HOWARD.

I think that was maybe my favorite scene of the episode. The three of them!! Commiserating! The way Pam reveals something embarrassing, and Ryan tells her the truth about Thailand, to make her feel less pathetic. It's kind of sweet. For the first time I think maybe we're not supposed to totally hate Ryan?? I've loved him especially hard ever since his fall from grace at Dunder Mifflin, but always figured the show would write him as nothing more than a one-note raging douchebag, so to see there is a possibility of layers is, like, thrilling for me. I find him way more interesting than Jim. Also, I really like douchebaggy characters?? Ha ha, I am a major dork.

RYAN: He's bluffing, Pam!

Okay, maybe I also love him because he hates Jim. JUST LIKE I DO MOST OF THE TIME.

MICHAEL: I don't care if Ryan murdered his entire family! He is like a son to me.

HAHAHAHAHA. Oh, Michael. Oh, Ryan's face.

CELEBRATORY CHAMPAGNE POPPING! Ryan refuses! Pam looks awkwardly at the camera! I find this little moment so endearing too.

Anyway, I really hope the season keeps up the quality of these past few episodes. I love the focus on Pam and Ryan and Michael (because it's one of those rare times Michael is actually kind of competent and awesome and likeable).

Oh, and you know what I realized? BJ Novak weirdly reminds me of Seth Meyers. I haven't pinpointed what it is, exactly, but he does. And I will totally be seeing Inglorious Bastards in the theater, because I now have a weird crush on him??? I don't even know, you guys, except earlier I was trolling for Pam/Ryan fic I haven't read yet. I may have a problem.

Yes to all of this! I've been sort of bored most of the time with The Office this season - it's had its moments, but I haven't really cared about it much. All that changed with the introduction of the Michael Scott Paper Company, which was so much better than I thought it would be.

Pam and Ryan's confessions on the floor was definitely my favorite part. I like your personal fanon of Ryan going to rehab in Fort Lauderdale.

Thank you for letting me relive this episode!

I definitely agree. I haven't hated this season or anything, but the MSPC arc really rejuvenated the show. This is the most I've loved it since season two, I think. :)

OH RYAN! OH MSPC! It totally breaks my heart that this arc ended so quickly, because it was like 200% amazing after we've been operating on, like, 75% amazingness for so long this season, and I want the amazing to STAY! And after Ryan's been so wretched for so long, the idea that he might be busting out some ~layers~ makes me want to flail my hands in incoherent excitement. And oh man, I hated on Ryan/Pam for years -- years! -- and just didn't get why they got all this fanfiction attention and NOW, DAMN AND BLAST, I GET IT SO ENTIRELY.

Basically, this post is made of wonderful. Ryan Bailey Howard!

I knew it wouldn't last long, but they almost could've stretched it out until the end of the season and had this episode as the finale. The fact that they didn't makes me wonder what they have in store for the remaining episodes.

And oh man, I hated on Ryan/Pam for years -- years! -- and just didn't get why they got all this fanfiction attention and NOW, DAMN AND BLAST, I GET IT SO ENTIRELY.

Hahahahaha. See, I loved Jim and Pam in season two, but then season three happened and it was kind of scary how my love for Jim turned into major dislike. I kind of liked the idea of Toby and Pam, but then Toby got kind of creepy. And I like Ryan and Kelly in their way, but I looove Kelly and Darryl for some reason. Plus the show really started getting lazy and using Ryan as the bad guy to drum up sympathy for Jim, which annoyed me, and so I started liking anyone who took the piss out of Jim, which meant, well, Ryan.

And now that Jim feels like Roy v. 2.0, with all of his lameness, Pam needs someone who will bicker with her and be an ass sometimes and Ryan is such a douche and they will NEVER EVER happen, but oh, I want them to anyway.

I COMPLETELY see that. It's the nose profile length. They have very oval/sharp features, long chin? Plus they're both always giving shit-eating grins to Camera B, so. This whole episode was made of win.

Ohhhh, that is so it! It's in the face. And the kind of smarmy-but-still-likeable factor.

I like Jim and all, but I've always loved Ryan, too, despite the douchebag factor. I think because he always came across as a realistic character, no apologies. And BJ Novak's a funny guy, so...

I think maybe I like Ryan more because unlike Jim, he's fallible. I tend to be drawn toward characters the show doesn't intend for me to like, and most of the time we're supposed to hate Ryan, but I find BJ Novak hilarious and there's something interesting about his character.

The Office made a miraculous recovery from the Land of Suck with the Michael Scott Paper Company. I've even rewatched the recent episodes which I haven't done with the show in ages.

Oh, and you know what I realized? BJ Novak weirdly reminds me of Seth Meyers. I haven't pinpointed what it is, exactly, but he does.

They're both douchebags? Doesn't mean I don't like them on my screen, but they're both smart, funny guys who seems a little greasy even though relatively clean cut. Maybe it's things I've read about Seth Meyers and pictures I've seen of BJ with young blondes. Wonder if they hang with John Mayer.

wasn't he dating (or at least appearing in public with) the receptionist from 30 Rock? also, what have you heard about Seth Meyes, I am curious now?!

They're both douchebags?

Ha, that is totally it, I bet. I have this feeling that BJ Novak is a total asshole in real life. I think Mindy Kaling has basically said as much in interviews, but at the same time, he's like her bff, and if he's bff with the awesome that is Mindy Kaling, there must be something awesome about him too.

Isn't there some story about him straight-up ignoring someone whilst out with Mindy? And like she totally said to this someone, "Oh, yeah, Ben-Jo? Complete asshole." OR SOMETHING EQUALLY AS AWESOME.

RYAN: Ever since I've gotten clean there's something about fresh morning air that... just really makes me sick.

Best line of the episode! Such a great episode and I love this picspam!! I honestly thought that Ryan was gone for good after the last time, but he made a SPECTACULAR return and it was just what the show needed at this point.

The only thing that bothers me (and I know it shouldn't because it means MORE RYAN HOWARD) -- Ryan getting his job back after all he's done seems so insanely unrealistic to me. It'd be one thing if he was a drug addict and went to rehab and now he's clean, but he lost the company A LOT of money. There is no way they would take him back, no matter what Michael said :-/

omg your icon. A+++++++++.

I think my favorite line was Michael. "I don't care if Ryan murdered his entire family! HE IS LIKE A SON TO ME." It is just so... Michael.

I know it is totally and completely unrealistic, but I seriously do not even care, because it means more Ryan Howard in my life. If Dwight can lock all the doors and set the office on fire without losing his job, then Ryan can be hired back at DM.

IT'S FROM THE SUN, OKAY.

Srsly, I want to know that story too! I read somewhere that apparently when Ryan came back as the new boss, BJ wanted him to have a goatee, but Greg Daniels was like, no, that'd cross the line from douchebag to total chump, so they settled on the beard.

HAHAHA, the summer after Angel ended David Boreanaz had blond-ish hair "FROM THE SUN," according to some interview. RIGHT. FROM THE SUN.

Isn't the goatee story in the s4 dvd's coverage of the writers'panel thingy they taped at that Scranton convention? B.J. is talking about how he wanted Ryan to have a goatee because they're so douchy, and the entire time he's sitting next to one of the writers who actually does have a goatee. IT IS HILARIOUS. I don't know, though, there's quite possibly multiple goatee-nixing stories out there.

I don't have the s4 dvds (sobbbbbbb) and haven't seen that!! THAT IS PROBABLY THE CORRECT VERSION. It was awhile ago that I read that tidbit. That's hilarious though.

I find myself really wanting an a/u where they secretly did it when they were both living in New York and now that's why they're so snappy and cranky with each other.

Reason I think my BJ Crush might be getting out of control: In every single screenshot, regardless of who else is in the picture or what they are doing? I can only see Ryan for about 30 seconds.

The Michael Scott Paper Company is magic, basically, I think is what I'm getting at.

Haha, SAME. I keep forgetting to look at the other people in the screencaps! OOPS.

I really really hope they keep some of the dynamic... or at least have some fallout in the "reintegration" of DM and MSPC. And maybe as the "new" salespeople, Pam and Ryan can be loyal to each other. And got out on sales calls together. AND MAYBE MAKE OUT A LITTLE. (Don't look at me like that.)
