When there's nowhere else to run
Is there room for one more son
One more son
If you can hold on
If you can hold on, hold on
I wanna stand up, I wanna let go
You know, you know - no you don't, you don't
I wanna shine on in the hearts of men
I wanna mean it from the back of my broken hand

Another head aches, another heart breaks
I am so much older than I can take
And my affection, well it comes and goes
I need direction to perfection, no no no no

Help me out
Yeah, you know you got to help me out
Yeah, oh don't you put me on the back burner
You know you got to help me out

And when there's nowhere else to run
Is there room for one more son
These changes ain't changing me
The gold-hearted boy I used to be

Yeah, you know you got to help me out
Yeah, oh don't you put me on the back burner
You know you got to help me out
You're gonna bring yourself down
Yeah, you're gonna bring yourself down
Yeah, you're gonna bring yourself down

I got soul, but I'm not a soldier
I got soul, but I'm not a soldier

Yeah, you know you got to help me out
Yeah, oh don't you put me on the back burner
You know you got to help me out
You're gonna bring yourself down
You're gonna bring yourself down
Yeah, oh don't you put me on the back burner
You're gonna bring yourself down
Yeah, you're gonna bring yourself down

Over and in, last call for sin
While everyone's lost, the battle is won
With all these things that I've done
All these things that I've done
If you can hold on
If you can hold on

It's been a pretty long time since I've vidded, but I really do love it. The idea for this vid came when driving back from Chicago with [livejournal.com profile] solflower22, I found the song on her mp3 player and consequently made her listen to it, like, ten times in two hours. The song choice is almost too obvious for Max, but it had the right intensity and momentum and it just had to be done, so I finally decided to go for it.

I started planning it the way I always do, which is by listening to it on repeat for about a week, then printing the lyrics and making a bunch of handwritten notes of what I'm seeing in my head. At first it was going to be completely Max-focused-- and it still is, for the most part-- but then it kind of became more about Jude and Lucy, too, and how Max connects them. He's the catalyst for everything that happens in the film. The moral of the story is: Without Max, everything goes to shit, the world sucks, the baby Jesus cries, etc etc.

There are also undertones of MAX AND JUDE ARE SECRETLY TOTALLY IN LOVE. I can't fight canon!

Technically, it is probably the best of my vids, because I worked more with things like keyframes and was more aware of the internal motion and hitting the beats. (I use Adobe Premiere Pro.) I've never vidded a movie before, nevertheless a musical, and it's both easier and harder. Easier because it's so visual already, and harder because everyone is too busy bursting into song to get a good shot without the talky face. GOD, SHUT UP FOR TWO SECONDS, PLEASE!

Oh, and Joe Anderson runs like a girl.

Feedback makes my life. ♥

Can't watch right now, as I'm at work. But I can tell you this, a song has never been more appropriate for Max, and I can't wait to watch it when I get home. I'm sure its going to be all sorts of awesome. I'll give proper feedback later! ♥

I am the worst at commenting! I watched this the other day and IT'S FABULOUS. ESPECIALLY YOUR FAVORITE PART - aka "I got soul but I'm not a soldier". I liked the color-to-b&w switches too, especially the end.

I LOVED it. So many of my favorite things in once neat package - Across the Universe, Max, and the Killers :D Plus Sekrit Boy Love (I'm not really into slash, but yeah, Max and Jude are totally in love) and Jim Sturgess is so pretty and I just love it.

Okay, it downloaded while I was out - it was all shiny and waiting for me when I got home. I was still OMG SUPER EXCITED so I didn't even take off my jacket and I watched it and...!

This song has been vidded to death in so many fandoms but none have ever quite fit the character like this one does Max. I think it's completely true to him and his relationships with Jude and Lucy, and askfd;jklfs, completely beautiful. There are just SO many perfect lyrics and your mad editing skillz conveyed so many things about Max, accompanied with those perfect lyrics and...! I'M GUSHING?! The transitions were really beautiful - sometimes simple fades do the trick, and I loved them. I think I liked your version of going from Soldier!Max to Prudence and the white women in the water BETTER than the film's; for some reason I don't like watching Max's stricken face fade into them, it just makes me feel...I don't know, like, EXTRA SAD WHEN IT'S ALREADY THE MOST DEPRESSING MOMENT EVER. You did it differently, though, when it would've been really easy to keep the already-made split screen. Loved iiit! And speaking of Soldier!Max - the I've got soul but I'm not a soldier sequence was great. I always love that part in the song where you can feel the tempo building up, and all of those flashes of Max/Jude/Lucy on time, truth, and hearts = LOVE, AGAIN. And, corny as it sounds, I felt that it definitely wrapped up Max's character as neatly as you can with all of the shit that happened to him, and how strongly he feels for Jude and Lucy.

AND THE MAX/JUDE SECRET!LOVE!!1 I loved the my affection - well, it comes and goes part (Max's expressions in that scene D:!!!), and again, all of the transitions in between. There are too many to name that were wonderful, but the hugging one was perfectly placed near the end; showing that the old Max was still there, somewhere under the surface. ESPECIALLY WHEN HE'S WITH JUDE, Y/Y?

One last thing I loved was the beginning in B&W, with Max's Blackbird face fading into the first shot of him in the film, running in Princeton...and turning to color. Really good, kind of like the Jude version of Girl, flipping back to the start of Max's "story". I LOVE HIM.

Srsly, AWESOME job! I'm going to watch this several times more. And thanks for making me love this song again!

SO AWESOME. Oh my God, greatness. I love the way you put it together, the black spaces in all the right places. It's great when Max is walking up the steps- that part went perfectly with the music. (: Excellent song to use for this theme, as well.

Woah. Absolutely fantastic! I'll be honest, I wasn't sure if I hate it or what because generally, I'm just not a fan-made-video person or anything...but this was amazing. It goes with the movie and song perfectly.

Hey, I'm curious as to what kind of software you used? I'm looking to make a video using other videos, and can't find anything. :(
